Well after three years at the University of Lincoln we have finally made it. Our exhibition was more of a success than we dreamed possible. After spending Monday setting up in the Cathedral we had a couple of hours to get changed and have a bite to eat, though I dont think anybody did as we were all so nervous.
The Preview evening started at 1930 with so many people entering the Chapter House it got to the stage where we thought we would have to ask some to wait outside until others left. The attendance far outweighed what we had expected. General comment were extremely positive and not only from family and friends. The academic staff and people from the art world were very enthusiastic about our work as a whole.
Personally I had a lot of positive feedback about my jewellery that has given me more encouragement to expand in that line. I also had great remarks about the wall hangings where the general consensus was how beautiful the colours where that I have achieved on the copper.
We are on a rota for manning the exhibition over the next couple of weeks and I have already had two sessions. The location of the exhibition has proved a bonus as we are getting all the tourists and visitors to the Cathedral coming to look at our work as well. On Tuesday morning we didn't stop welcoming people from when we opened until I finished my shift at 1300.
All in all we are very proud of ourselves putting on such a wonderful exhibition and hope that we manage to go forward from here to bigger and better things.
Thanks to all of the Contemporary Decorative Crafts course and the Furniture guys for making the past three years and the exhibition a joy to be involved in.
Welcome to my blog. I am a metal artist that specialises in copper wall art with natural patina colouring. Using only hand tools and traditional methods in forming the copper, I create unique pieces.
